Profiles
Dr Deborah Foskey, Associate
Dr Deb Foskey is a dedicated social reformer with a fervent belief in, and commitment to, a fairer and more equitable world. Through both her community and representative work she has made substantial contributions to the awareness and advancement of contemporary issues such as climate change, environmental protection, education, public housing and women’s rights.
During a diverse career in politics, research and education, Deb has worked to engage people and communities, especially those most isolated or disenfranchised, using a highly inclusive personal style that encourages the active input and development of ideas. Between 2004 and 2008, she capitalised on this approach as the sole Greens member of the ACT Legislative Assembly, bringing a highly informed global and local perspective to the political debate. Her willingness to challenge prevailing views, facilitate discussion, and argue cases with passion and logic has resulted in a number of improved outcomes for ACT citizens and set the scene for the election of an unprecedented four Greens elected to the Assembly at the 2008 election.
Deb's practical experience in current environmental and social issues at the local, national and global levels is backed up by outstanding research and policy development skills that enable her to quickly gain a thorough understanding of new subject matter.
Deb is a relationship builder who connects with people from all walks of life, works effectively with diversity and recognises the importance of genuine consultation. She combines a well established ability to represent her constituents assertively with a very human style that considers and respects other points of view. herenow collective is very pleased to be able to work with Deb.
Eleni McIlroy, Managing Partner
An experienced solo traveller, Eleni McIlroy has spent many hours honing her Spanish language skills as a volunteer on a number of community-building projects in South America. Typical of her generation, she uses social media such as MySpace and Facebook to create and maintain virtual friendship networks that span the globe.
Eleni may be young, but she knows that she wants to do more with her life than work in hospitality. Currently studying for her Bachelor of Environment, Eleni intends to use herenow collective as a vehicle to effectively harness the enthusiasm and skills of Generation Y; technology-savvy people who are looking for rewarding and challenging careers.
Eleni believes that change starts with individuals working collectively. She is committed to promoting tolerance, understanding and environmentally sustainable initiatives in the community and the workplace.
Samara McIlroy, Managing Partner
Samara McIlroy is an Information Management professional and contemporary visual artist with over 15 years experience working and volunteering for government and community organisations. Samara believes that herenow collective is unique in the services it provides.
Samara has experience in database design, software implementations, archives and digitisation projects.
Samara experiments with sculptural installation, photography, drawing, painting and e-media. She is engaged in an ongoing project examining the relationship between empirical thinking and creative, material thinking (‘thinking with things’).
A regular blogger, Samara was responsible for the content and design of this website.
Although she is also old enough to remember working and studying without a computer screen on her desk, Samara is really excited about the application potential of digital storytelling, social media and web applications both for communities, the workplace and for her artwork.
